A fierce supporter of indie music and culture, Carla Gillis began working at NOW as a music writer and copy editor in 2008, shortly after moving to Toronto.
Born in Halifax, she earned an English degree from Dalhousie University and an MFA in Creative Writing from the University of British Columbia, where she majored in song lyric and non-fiction. She's worked as a music writer for 10 years and has played in bands since her teens, including Plumtree, which wrote the song Scott Pilgrim that inspired the graphic novel series and movie. Currently she plays in SISTER with her sister.
