Ellie Kirzner came to NOW from the activist frontlines and learned journalism in the rough and tumble of NOW's irreverent news operation. She spends her time trying to ensure NOW's news pages snap with insight and crackle with wit and commitment to satisfy the paper's intelligent and urban-cool readers. She works with a wide variety of talented writers and no doubt drives some of them to distraction. A confessed social movement junkie, she writes on a mess of themes from local issues, to Afghanistan, civil rights, electoral politics, Israel/Palestine and the Arab revoltion, and reported extensively on the build up to and fall-out from the G20 policing disaster. Kirzner also has a few prejudices, particularly when it comes to non-violence and tends to report on it in gushing tones, losing all manner of journalistic objectivity. In her spare time, she watches Al Jazeera, listens to Jonathan Goldstein and reads 19th C lit.
