It’s a little strange writing about the Saturday pro-coalition rally this morning considering reports that Iggy’s just about ready to take over and apply his own take on coalitions (read: don’t hold your breath for NDP cabinet seats).
Barack Obama told Americans that they were better than the last eight years of Bush rule, and they responded historically. A majority of Canadians think we can do better than the governments Stephen Harper has been offering this country since his first minority victory in 2004 and we too have a chance to make history.
When I took my first course in Canadian history way back, the final exam question was “Canada has no ideological political parties, just coalitions seeking political office. Discuss.”

Is the country really split over the planned progressive coalition government? Is the city of Toronto?
The number one most exciting thing about installing a new coalition government in Ottawa is the chance to begin seriously addressing the environmental crisis as part of the solution to our current economic disaster.
The Harperites are screaming “separatist” at every mention of the Bloc Quebecois’s connection to the new coalition. We’re so-o-o scared.
NOW called for a progressive coalition government the day the writ dropped in September.
