Live ReviewThe messianic Edward Sharpe And The Magnetics
A mix of unabashedly crowd-pleasing 60s rock, country and gospel
>> MORE
Modern garage rock is sometimes denigrated as a genre lacking originality, an unabashed throwback to an earlier era of self-consciously backwards-looking good-time music.
As maniacally heavy as Mares of Thrace are on record, it’s even more impressive seeing it played live.
Even though Spiritualized tweak their live show fairly frequently, the UK space rock legends have been a consistently good live band over the years.
As a genre built upon virtuosic technique and crate-digging, sometimes esoteric samples, scratch-based turntablism can sometimes be an alienating genre for casual listeners. So kudos to Canadian record wizard Kid Koala (a.k.a. Eric San) for finding a way to make his music accessible and approachable to any fan… including toddlers.
