WHAT: Steelback Tiverton Dark (lager beer) Rating: NNN

WHERE: Tiverton, Ontario

WHY: Steelback may never be able to exorcise the ghost of former CEO/pitchman Frank d’Angelo, but you have to give the company points for trying. The best way to put Old Goalmouth behind them? Make some great beer – but that’s not easy. Tiverton Dark represents one step in the right direction. It’s got enough warm, dark malt character to counteract the typical Steelback lightness that detracts from some of their other beers.

Not bad compared to Laker Red and other such slosh, who'd a thunk?
