TFI New Labels alumnus Jennifer Waters was the first to show in fashion week's new studio venue, an open platform set up in the middle of Heritage Court tailored to smaller presentations. When you let an audience get up close and personal with a collection, the finishing better be impeccable and Waters’ House of Groves lineup was beautifully made.
Watching Wednesday evening's Attitude show was like experiencing fashion week's greatest hits all at once. The wide legged pants, citrusy hues, sheer pieces and maxi lengths that have dominated this week's shows all made appearances in the Sears presentation. But unlike most of the other shows we've seen this week, nothing here is priced over $89.99.
The buzz before a Joe Fresh show is usually about which star model is flying into town to walk the runway but on Wednesday afternoon, the press release that arrived in fashion editor inboxes announced instead that Joe Fresh would be redesigning the 20-year-old Scouts Canada uniform.
Just before the VAWK show at the Art Gallery of Ontario, designer Sunny Fong’s business partner Ben Barry mentioned that the circular runway set up was meant to mimic a bullfighting ring. In the presentation’s program, Fong himself said that he was torn between drawing Spring 2011 inspiration from Spain and Africa and decided to reference both.
