Excellent performances and a ton of mood make this psychological drama, based on a true story, compelling. Elsa (Frot) still grieves the death of her daughter six years before. When she starts believing that the girl is alive in the person of Lola, living in the Vigneaux household, she stalks the family, especially Lola's mother, Claire (Bonnaire), to get her daughter back.
Frot is terrific as the tormented Elsa, and an outraged Bonnaire matches her frame for frame. But it's Nebbou's ability to create a sense of dread that draws you in. You know something strange is going to happen – but you're not sure what.
