Un Conte De Noël

Program: SPEC
Rating: NNNN

Review

Desplechin's latest intimate epic is a detailed, assured seriocomedy. A magnificent cast plays members of a fractured family forced to confront years of resentments, manipulations and secrets during a contentious Christmas reunion.

Lovers of Desplechin's brilliant Kings And Queen will be delighted to see stars Emmanuelle Devos and Amalric reunited here as lovers. Deneuve gets a meaty role as Amalric's ailing mother, and Jean-Paul Roussillon, Anne Consigny, Hippolyte Girardot and Deneuve's real-life daughter, Chiara Mastroianni, deliver fine supporting work. A lovely film.
