Review

This structurally incoherent pre-teen coming-of-age story is about a boy named Martin (Funk), his underdog baseball team and a whole whack of other stuff that was going on in Montreal's Summer of '69 (like rock and roll and the Expos).

The world outside regularly crashes into Martin's playing field, like when Mom turns into a promiscuous hippie or a neighbour goes off to Woodstock, but these are batted to the side without further mention. Probably hoping to imitate the success of 2005's C.R.A.Z.Y., A No-Hit, No-Run Summer could win fans with its cute one-liners, charming performances in undemanding roles and sheer nostalgia for an age when, it would seem, a whole lot of nothing happened.
