STUDENTS GET IN FREE Yes, you read that right. Except for the PEN benefit, all events are free for students, provided you can show a secondary or post-secondary school I.D. and tickets are available for the event. Call 416-973-4000 to reserve.
MEET THE AUTHORS Is there an author coming to town whom you want to meet but you can't fork out the dough? You don't have to attend an IFOA event to get your books signed. The festival invites you to the Marilyn Brewer Community Space outside the Brigantine Room (235 Queens Quay West), where authors meet and greet their fans. And guess what? It's free.
Just check the slate and come down an hour to an hour and a half after the scheduled event begins. Note that this applies to York Quay Centre events only and not to those slated for the Premiere Dance Theatre.
MYSTERY MEET Thriller aficionados get special attention this year with the appearance of cool and accomplished crime writers like Louise Welsh and Michael Connelly.
To October 28. Mainstage readings, interviews, talks, roundtables $15, stu free; PEN Canada benefit $20, gala $175; Giller Prize finalists reading $25; children's readings $4 (through School Visits Programme, 416-973-4091). Harbourfront Centre, 416-973-4000, www.readings.org.
