A national children’s charity aims to “beat the clock” in closing the global gender gap, which is currently projected to take another 132 years.

Plan International Canada has launched its new five-year plan called All Girls Standing Strong. The organization works to advance children’s rights and equality for girls.

“The fight for gender equality is far from over, and we refuse to accept that it will take another century for girls to have the same rights and opportunities as boys,” Plan International Canada President and CEO Lindsay Glassco said in a news release on Wednesday. “All Girls Standing Strong is our commitment to breaking down the barriers that hold girls back and we will not stop until we are all equal.”

Highlights from the strategy’s 13 focus areas include strengthening the organization’s impact, reporting in gender transformative programming and using that data to inform decision-making.

They are also seeking more humanitarian relief and resilience methods that result in prevention and preparedness for future disasters.

Plan International Canada wants to increase youth involvement by co-creating programs supporting youth development as leaders and visionaries for change.

All Girls Standing Strong builds on the achievements of the organization’s previous five-year strategy called 20 Million Reasons.

The previous plan had an impact on the lives of more than 31 million children, raised more than a billion dollars in support of Plan International Canada’s mission and exceeded targets to transform the lives of girls, according to the organization.

“Our new strategy will guide us as we strive to eliminate the injustices and violence that far too many girls face,” Glassco said.
