Independent Designers Outlet

You local fashion holdouts are all out of excuses. Canadian clothing has style, cachet and, with the opening of Independent Designers Outlet on the buzzing Dundas strip at Gladstone, a permanent home offering it up at deep discounts.

Capitalizing on the frugal spirit of seasonal shopping events like The Clothing Show and One Of A Kind, Revolve designer Lara Stephenson has created a consignment boutique she calls a Winners for locally designed and produced clothing. Overstock-but-in-season pieces by Toronto labels like Snoflake and Greenbaum Clothing are marked down by 30 to 80 per cent.

Since IDO is selling leftovers, styles can be limited in size and quantity, so act fast if you’re thinking of scooping up summer frocks, including colour-blocked Lux & Lustre maxi dresses and printed Juma shifts.

Independent Designers Outlet picks: A House of Spy poppy print dress is $80, from $160; Juma’s pink tulip dress with drawstring hem drops from $180 to $60; spend summer in Dagg & Stacey’s high-waisted linen shorts, $98 from $150.

Look for: Stephenson’s studio downstairs. Ask nice and she may bring up some current-season pieces to pick through.

Hours: Wednesday to Friday noon to 7 pm, Saturday and Sunday noon to 6 pm.
