Artists to watch

LUISA DURANTE
Who: Plays romance novelist frustrated by love and writer's block in Character Assassination.
Buzz: Expect Durante - a Fringe fave for Pseudolus and A Midsummer Night's Dream - to use her strong presence and comic skills to generate dramatic sizzle in this solo show.

COLLEEN WILLIAMS
Who: Director of Prometheus Unplugged, update of a lost play by Aeschylus.
Buzz: With solid credentials for acting (Dora for Saved) and directing (Ditch), Williams tackles an unusual subject, a comic take on human-vs.-divinity struggle. Will laughter or philosophy win?

NATASHA MYTNOWYCH
Who: Writer/director of velo_city, in which four boys hide inside their suburban landscape.
Buzz: Multi-talented young artist with string of solid credits (Rhubarb!, Paprika, Buncha Young Artists) reaches a larger audience with a show combining actors and puppets. Keep an eye on her - you might be saying, 'I saw her when....'

CHRIS GIBBS
Who: Writer/performer of solo show Gibberish.
Buzz: Gibbs, one half of the witty Brit duo Hoopal, returns without his cohort. Can he pull off a solo show and still serve up as much Pythonesque humour?

MACKENZIE MULDOON
Who: Enterprising actor (Kissing The Witch) appears in Escher's Hands, in which twin realities rub against each other in tale of two writers and their forceful fictional creations.
Buzz: Look for Muldoon - reunited with Rahnuma Panthaky (KissingÉ) and director Daryl Cloran (fforward) - and company to keep audiences guessing in psychological thriller.

MARK CHRISTMANN
Who: Actor/director, Simple Cataclysms: Songs Of Kurt Weill, a cabaret-style look at Threepenny Opera composer Weill's life and work.
Buzz: Multi-faceted director (Girl With No Door On Her Mouth) and actor stands out in period (Monsieur D'Eon Is A Woman), so his take on Bertolt Brecht should cut like Mack the Knife.

RICK ROBERTS
Who: Writer/director of Fish/Wife, in which a pair of women are stuck in the kitchen preparing sashimi for their guests.
Buzz: Known as an actor (Adam Baum And The Jew Movie, Traders, L.A. Doctors), Roberts makes a breakaway gambit as stage writer. Will the computer replace the greasepaint?

THE CAST OF SIN CITY
Who: Kristen Van Ritzen, Peter Oldring, Raoul Bhaneja, Albert Howell, Pat Kelly, Joanne O'Sullivan, Mary-Pat Farrell, Herbie Barnes and nightly guests play characters in an ongoing improvised comic soap opera.
Buzz: This cast has a proven chemistry, since most perform together at the Poor Alex each Monday night. Add Second City alum Mary-Pat Farrell (back from Vegas!) and a bunch of surprise guests and you've got a hot ticket for late-night Fringers.
