Leslie Arden is one of our best musical theatre creators. We see her work all too rarely, so treat yourself to the world premiere of The Princess & The Handmaiden, a Grimm Brothers-type tale filled with tuneful music and clever lyrics in a production that would be hard to top.

Do you hear what I hear? Well, besides the Bing Crosby Christmas carols filling mall corridors, that would be the chiming of cash registers as corporations the world over fire up their sweatshops and start tallying their holiday profits. If handing out mall socks and sweaters is starting to ring hollow for you, consider injecting a little more feel-good factor into your prezzie shopping and give out gifts that pay it forward.

THE EVENT: The Garrison Open House, w/ Diableros and Foxfire, November 12

>> More
All free, all night, all over Toronto - the second Nuit Blanche kicks off Saturday night (September 29) with over 190 exhibitions of contemporary art.
But these are not your regular shows. Many are interactive or actually change as the night wears on, demonstrating the power of art and its refusal to remain static. Activities unfold in three zones, each with its own theme. The challenge is to see as much as you can while spending enough time to appreciate its effect. Never mind the weather. Last year's inaugural Nuit Blanche was cold and rainy, but that didn't stop thousands from taking to the streets for a totally memorable night that transformed Toronto into one huge outdoor art gallery.

Get ready for the ultimate art crawl.

T.O. adapts to Nuit Blanche

For Nuit Blanche's second year, the LCBO has extended the hours of many downtown bars (see listings, below). The TTC, too, extends its $8.50 day pass, good from start of service Saturday to Sunday at 9 am, and extends subway service right through the night to 7 am on the Yonge line between St. George and Eglinton and on the Bloor-Danforth line between Christie and Broadview.

all night updates

Running around Nuit Blanche last year, did you ever line up and wonder if it was worth waiting 30 minutes for? Did you just miss a live performace - maybe never even knew it was a live performance? Didn't know if you wanted to explore those out-of-the-way-by-a-block hidden treasures?

NOW's team, (that would be Rick and Jen), will be running around all night, (as stamina and caffeine allow), to give you answers to these burning questions. How? By the joy of SMS. We'll hook you up with updates during the event and let you know our thoughts on the displays throught the city. Sign-up for it here

NOW's flickr pool

The night will be rife with photo opportunities, and we'll be featuring the latest photos in our flickr pool tagged nuitblanche. There are some cool mobile tools for direct flickr uploading too. Check out what we already have.
