DANA BAITZ Friday (June 28), Open Mouth 3 Camp Sis fundraiser, 519 Community Centre (519 Church), 7 pm.
Classically trained, percussive piano pounder - more Ani than Tori - with an academic bent (she's doing her doctorate in the semiotics of popular music) delivers a socially aware and super-intense show.
It can get gory, warns Baitz. "I've actually had to wash bits of blood off the piano after shows. I can get a bit too much into the performance!"
SKARLET O'HARA Saturday (June 29), Fruit Loopz Pride Stage, 6:20 pm.
It wouldn't be Pride without a couple of alt-grrrl folkies. The local team of vocalist-guitarists Marnie Pettle and Heather Kirby, drummer Jenny Casarella and bassist Mike Overton are perennial Fruit Loopz faves and dropped their first album of jagged acoustic rock tunes last January. Cute and clever.
GENTLEMAN REG Sunday (June 30), North Beer Garden Stage, 4:30 pm.
Take it down a notch, step outta the sun and chill with this wispy-voiced Three Gut sweetheart (and sometime Hidden Camera) who warbles ethereal love songs 'n' lullabies.
THE JANE WAYNES Saturday (June 29), South Beer Garden Stage, 6:30 pm.
If her cheatin' heart's gettin' you down and you wanna drown yer sorrows after Dyke March drama, mosey on down to Maple Leaf Gardens for some hooch and sweet country and western cowgrrrl tunes. Six-gallon-hatted balladeers Tucker and Travis twang it up with mandolin and banjo - and charisma to boot.
ROCKET TITS Sunday (June 30), Alexander Stage, 6:45 pm; and Monday (July 1) at Tequila Lounge (794 Bathurst).
Brazen Barbi fronts this estro-jet-fuelled all-grrrl outfit, who play rawk-out covers of old-skool faves. You won't be dancing with yourself for long - nothing's sexier than a sweaty fool headbangin' to Back In Black. Just like high school, except with better hair.
MICAH BARNES AND LOUDBOY Sunday (June 30), South Beer Garden Stage, 6 pm; and Monday (July 1), 9 and 11 pm, at the Cameron (408 Queen West).
Award-winning erstwhile teen-dream cabaret cutie turned aggro-rocker shows off his powerful pipes, thoughtful lyrics and buff physique. He headlines Sunday's Pride festivities beside Maple Leaf Gardens and gives a hit of post-Pride queer content at the Cameron the next day.
