Runaway teens try to survive on Los Angeles’s mean streets. Some of them don’t make it.
At heart, the movie is a noirish crime drama propelled by revenge, drugs and a gun in the wrong hands. It strives for realism and gets partway there on a sympathetic but unsentimental tone, strong script and great location work. But most of the cast looks too well-fed to be entirely believable, and the familiar faces don’t help, though Dermot Mulroney, Lara Flynn Boyle, Will Smith, Ricki Lake, Kyle McLachlan and the rest do good work.
Too bad there are no extras. The film is well worth a retrospective making-of doc.
