My Sister’s Keeper

Eleven-year-old Anna sues her parents for medical emancipation. Since infancy, she’s been donating blood and bone marrow to treat sister Kate’s leukemia. Now her parents want her kidney. Anna rebels.

It’s a brilliant idea with immense potential for ethical, psychological and legal drama. Instead, we get a mush-brained, sentimental family saga in which everyone is loving and well-meaning. Anna’s story takes a back seat to that of the dying child, and the big third-act twist (you’ll see it coming a mile away) seems designed to obliterate the validity of the central idea.

But Abigail Breslin (Anna), Alec Baldwin (her lawyer) and Cameron Diaz (her driven mother) perform well, particularly in the courtroom scenes, of which you’ll find more in the extras.

EXTRAS Deleted scenes. Widescreen, full-screen versions. English, French audio and subtitles.
