Club Native

Though passage of 1985's Bill C-31 meant women officially maintain their native status when they marry non-natives, some bands continue to force women who make that decision off the reserve. Tracey Deer talks to native women who experienced this fundamental injustice, and the result is a moving film about divided loyalties and the complexities surrounding identity.

Central to Club Native 's power is the unwavering commitment these women have demonstrated to their first communities. Waneek Horn-Miller, for example, recalls carrying supplies as a 14-year-old to the warriors during the Oka standoff.

Props to Deer for including footage of Horn-Miller's harassment at the site.
