Ghosts of Girlfriends Past
Past imperfect

Applying the format of A Christmas Carol to a romantic comedy is a cute premise. But Ghosts Of Girlfriends Past is a trite and derivative assembly-line product featuring a stale romance and little comedy.

Matthew McConaughey stars as Connor, an arrogant man-whore who breaks up with several women at a time via conference call and yells bah-humbug to the idea of love. Three ghosts pay him a visit, looking to resolve his insecurity issues (this being the obvious prognosis for philanderers) and re-ignite his passion for childhood friend Jenny (Jennifer Garner).

Sleepwalking through his role, McConaughey lacks chemistry with Garner, who is decent in a movie that demands less. Director Mark Waters constantly goes for cheap laughs yet fails, unable to even get a rise out of Michael Douglas’s appearance as a Hugh Hefner-like ghost.
