CADENCE WEAPON

Whether it’s a matter of Cadence Weapon having too many bloggers e-mail him that his Breaking Kayfabe album was a work of genius or wasting too much time touring with Final Fantasy, Afterparty Babies suggests that former Pitchfork writer Rollie Pemberton has lost the plot.

The boring beats and throwback rhyme flow (circa 92) – which is weak even by Edmontonian standards – put Afterparty Babies somewhere beneath Don Cash’s home demos and the outtakes from Organized Rhyme’s Huh? Stiffenin’ Against The Wall. Might want to rethink the launch of that Afterparty Babies fashion line.

NNNN Unbelievable beats and superb rhymes, a truely amazing accomplishment for electronic music and rap music and their united future. Canada should be really proud of Rollie Pemberton. This is a shameful stab at an extremely passionate musician and really great kid.

maybe you're getting a bit old to be doing this, tim.

Yeah - Great Record, i've heard snips. Tim sucks shit! just retire you old fart contrarian.

Posted by Oscar on 02/29/2008, 03:47 PM
You come off as a clueless cranky old man with this one, Tim. AGAIN.

This review is just silly. It's completely personal. Hey - maybe you should already start writing your one N review for Final Fantasy's next record too, before you even hear it? You're gonna do it anyways. I'm hoping to see a song called "this douche writes reviews" on his next record.

Sad really. I know a metacritic rating isn't everything but that one star rating is going to kill this album's metascore and could end up dissuading some who would have otherwise given the album a chance. This reviewer has to be old to be so clueless. I also, on first listen, wasn't that impressed, but once you have given the album a few spins, front to back, the beats really sink in. The critic's comparisons aren't just unwarranted but are totally ridiculous. A half-assed review. Disregard and get this album.

Wow, Tim. I thought your other reviews this week sucked, but this one cements your position as utter wank. The funny thing is that while you might laugh at these comments, we're laughing at you.

Ridiculously negative review here. Freaking criminal. This album is sic. Not as good as Breaking Kayfabe, but still revolutionary nevertheless. But hey, leave it to Now Magazine to simultaneously award "sophistication" over dope beats/grooves. After all, that's why they gave that "crazy-sophisticated-deep movie" "Crash" five Ns while charging Pemberton for being too simplistic. Geez. Lol.

"weak even by Edmontonian standards"?

You are now approaching self-parody of a Toronto-based reviewer from Now Magazine.

what the hell does this Tim Perlich guy even know about 'Edmonton standards'??? this album is touching and poetic while still being fun, witty, and danceable. oh and just so you know: your bullshit review isn't up to Edmonton standards. go home.

What a shameful review. I suspect Mr. Perlich will soon be leaving NOW, which hopefully will limit exposure to his crotchety brand of malevolence to his unfortunate friends and family.

Apparently Rollie stepped on a +30 failed rockstars toes at an industry afterparty. Not a single valid point has been presented here and this is clear jealous attack by a bitter loser. Did he dance with the 18 year old you have crush on? Even for Edmonton standards, you are hack looking for attention.

somebody fire tim!

Just read another letter on this review in this week's issue. Seems that people might want a bit more of a rationale for such an abysmal rating, Tim. WHY are the beats boring? WHAT makes the flow weak? I know that you don't get very much space to write these things, but this is a very confrontational position you're taking here, and you're gonna need to back it up.

If it ain't Roots Rock or World Beat is ain't good enough for the old sack of shit. Tim Perlich is the ultimate bitch critic. Retire so NOW can bring in someone that actually likes music.
