ANTI-FLAG

Although a label like “political punk” can be too limiting, placing a band’s ideology and outspokenness ahead of the actual music, Anti-Flag have always successfully bridged substance and style. Their work is rife with diatribes against corruption and the current White House administration, and the music itself is constantly challenging and reshaping the mould.

On their seventh disc, the music successfully carries the message, thanks in no small part to Bowie/Morrissey/T. Rex producer extraordinaire Tony Visconti, who pumps even more life into these loud, rousing singalong choruses and driving power chords without sacrificing dynamics or naked emotion. Songs like Spit In The Face and Smartest Bomb are complexly arranged, engaging and intelligent, while the title track should reassure long-time fans worried that Anti-Flag’s original fire might have cooled.
