Kris Kristofferson
Closer To The Bone (New West)

Put your ear near the speaker during Closer To The Bone’s opening title track. You’ll hear a familiar voice deep in the background: Bob Dylan, a long-time buddy of Kris Kristofferson’s going back to their Pat Garrett And Billy The Kid days. It’s a small cameo by an enormous personality, delivered in a way that’s appropriate to Closer’s understated allure.

Building on the critical goodwill he received from 06s stripped-down This Old Road, the 73-year-old Kristofferson offers another sparsely produced batch of reflective acoustic tunes that he sings with sage simplicity. Of all the Johnny Cash tributes over the last couple of years, Closer’s uplifting Good Morning John definitely ranks among the best.

Top track: Good Morning John

Please check New West Record's homepage and scroll down their news – the statement is clearly posted that it's Stephen Bruton singing – and not Bob Dylan – on Kristofferson's new album "Closer to the Bone". New West Records' website states Stephen Bruton needs to receive full credit for backround vocals. New West Records' website is asking bloggers and newspapers to run corrections. Thank you.
