The Magic
Friday, June 19

Inspired in part by their folk musician father, James Gordon, Evan and Geordie Gordon have been playing music together their whole lives.

When Geordie decided he wanted to make some “super-pop hits,” bringing his brother Evan on board was a natural choice. At first they thought it might be just the two of them onstage each night.

“We thought that just us and a laptop would be a really easy way to streamline the shows and make more money, but it didn’t feel the same as an actual band,” Evan admits from his Guelph home.

“I’m much happier now that we’re a full band. We even have a horn section that we cart around when we can.”

Their initial minimalism has been replaced by unrestrained maximalism, and if you’ve seen them live, you know they love to play for a dance floor.

But just because their rock is danceable (and used to be laptop-based) doesn’t mean you should lump them in with the legions of dance-rock indie bands out there.

“We’re pretty out of touch with modern electro music, but we’re huge fans of the older, more primitive stuff like Kraftwerk and Giorgio Moroder.”
